How We’ve Been Found: March 11th to March 17th

What’s The Point: This is an installment of our “How We’ve Been Found” series, which will appear approximately every Wednesday. The point of this is to give you a bit of information about how we’re doing statistically, and how people (including you, of course,) have been getting to our blog.

Individual Pageviews:

  • 03/11: 20
  • 03/12: 16
  • 03/13: 10
  • 03/14: 5
  • 03/15: 8
  • 03/16: 5
  • 03/17: 13

Search Engine Terms:

  • 03/11: (info unavailable — dammit, WordPress!)
  • 03/12: “pretty boston” (1)
  • 03/13: “wbc i love japan” (1), “cole hamels batting” (1)
  • 03/14: “does barry zito ex girlfriends” (1)
  • 03/15: “sexiest picture ever” (1), “barry zito’s girlfriends” (1)
  • 03/16: “philadelphia eagles tattoo” (1)
  • 03/17: “zito ex girlfriend” (2), “kevin mench” (1), “barry zito girlfriend” (1), “potentially amoral blog” (1)

A few quick notes: It looks like we’ve gotten our first view by someone searching for us specifically …. Our next post may be about Barry Zito’s ex-girlfriends, considering the high level of demand …. If anyone knows how to find information for specific search dates beyond the past 7 days, shoot me an email and I’ll love you forever …. Who else wishes that Chase Utley would keep on rockin’ the high socks during the regular season? …. Are any of you still reading this?

Who else loves the Dutch?

Does anyone else enjoy extra-innings pitcher’s duels? Does anyone else think that Roy Halladay’s 10-inning CG shutout was one of the coolest things ever? Is that too specific for people to remember?

There’s a simpler question hiding here: Who else thought it was cool that nobody scored until the 11th inning in tonight’s Dominicana v. Nederland game?

Its like theyve just upset a team loaded with Major League players or something!

It's like they've just beat a heavily favored, ML player-loaded team or something!

Ricky Van den Hurk (left) and Alex Smit: So I was like, I told you I can pitch, and he was like, Nah, I bet you cant, but I was right! Isnt that cool?.

Alex Smit (right) talking to Ricky VandenHurk: "So I was like, 'I told you I can pitch', and he was like, 'Nah, I bet you can't', but I was right! Isn't that cool?".

VandenHurk on Marlins Photo Day. He's the tallest guy on the team: I think they told him to slouch.

VandenHurk on Marlins Photo Day. He's the tallest guy on the team: I think they told him to slouch so they wouldn't have to reframe their cameras. He certainly looks bored.

I know, I should probably stop posting random photos of Ricky VandenHurk. But he’s so cute….

Nederland plays Puerto Rico at 5:30 PM Eastern tonight (Wednesday) to determine the top seed in Pool 2. VandenHurk should be comfortable pitching in his native Dolphin Stadium once Pool 2 play starts.

The Reanimated Corpse of Sidney Ponson

What do you think of when someone says “Sidney Ponson”? If you’re like me, your first thought is probably that they’re mispronouncing his name again, and you want to write “Pon-SONE not PON-sawn” on their forehead in big black Sharpie. Then again, if you’re fairly normal, you probably think something like “Oh, yeah, that guy who may or may not have thrown a strike that one time”. Well, Mr. I-Can’t-Hit-The-Strike-Zone just did this:

4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 1 K.

I’m impressed.

Bonus picture of Ricky VandenHurk.

They play Puerto Rico at 6:30 PM Eastern tomorrow (March 9th). I’m probably going to commandeer a friend’s house and TV, since I don’t get MLB Network and I can’t seem to find ESPN Deportes.

Liveblog: WBC Game A4, Japan vs. Korea

Click here to view the liveblog, which will start at approximately 5 AM Eastern/2 AM Pacific. The unnecessarily complicated Daisuke Matsuzaka will be pitching for Japan, and that’s pretty much all I know in advance. I’ll use this as an excuse to post a few pictures of Yu Darvish.

Darvish adjusts his hat in the outfield. Something about this picture seems hilarious to me — or maybe its just 12:30 in the morning. Yeah, thats probably it.

Shameless Self-Promotion

You may have noticed the little box in our sidebar, below our wonderfully awesome tag cloud and above our absurdly technical copyright manifesto, that says “we’re on twitter!”, has an RSS logo, and displays a little sentence or two (frequently one mentioning Ollie Perez, but that’s hardly the point). This is our feed from Twitter, where I (Crane) microblog about stuff that’s usually baseball-related. Some of my recent tweets have touched on such diverse topics as software, Formula 1 merchandise, Roy Halladay’s cooking habits, and the seatbelts on old Buicks.

Interested yet? You can subscribe by clicking here, or you can take a look at my recent updates by clicking here.

We’re also on Tumblr, which can be found here. It’s also in our sidebar – we’re just ‘testing our tumblr feed’, as you can see, because we aren’t sure how it handles images and whatnot. Email me if you know how to change the background picture on a Tumblr theme.

We also run occasional liveblogs/liveglogs, whatever you want to call it — you probably didn’t notice, but I stayed up until 5 this morning haphazardly liveblogging the WBC Game 1: China vs Japan — through the lovely CoverItLive.com, which is so user-friendly that a sleep-deprived college student can successfuly set up liveblogs.

This wonderful ad appeared thrice (did I really just say that?) over the course of the game. Sorry about the link-through; I wasn’t sure if it would embed properly.

I may or may not have the courage to grab a Mountain Dew and liveblog tomorrow morning, or tonight, or whatever you want to call it (my circadian rhythm’s beat up pretty bad), but if I do, will you try to follow along? Please? C’mon, guys. I didn’t get a single liveblog reader, although the post containing the link got a couple hits.
